Back up my DNS

No credit card. 60 seconds to set up.

It's 2 AM. Your DNS records are gone.

Someone fat-fingered a zone update. A provider migration went sideways. An expired account wiped your records. You're staring at a blank DNS panel and your entire infrastructure is unreachable.

Email is down. Your website is down. Customer-facing APIs are down. You're trying to remember MX priorities from memory.

Worse: someone silently changed an MX record last Tuesday. Nobody noticed until clients stopped receiving email. By the time you find it, you're three days into a support nightmare — and you're rebuilding from memory because there's no record of what it was before.

Or you're migrating 40 client domains from GoDaddy to Cloudflare. The zone export looks clean until you realise it missed every SRV record and half the DKIM TXT entries. Microsoft 365 auth breaks across a dozen accounts. You don't find out until Monday morning.

Three DNS providers, 40 client domains, and a junior dev just deleted a wildcard record. Which domain? When? What was the value? Without a changelog, you're grepping Slack history and hoping someone pasted the old record somewhere.

The fix takes minutes — if you have a backup. Without one, you're rebuilding blind.

How it works

01

Connect your provider

Read-only API access. We never modify your zones. Connect DNSimple, Route53, Cloudflare, or GoDaddy in under a minute.

02

Every change, captured

When a record changes — an A record, an MX priority, a TXT value — we snapshot the full zone and store the diff.

03

Download or compare

Download any snapshot as a standard zone file. Compare any two versions side by side. Know exactly what changed and when.

DNS backup diff view

Every change tracked. Full zone file diffs across all your domains.

We email you the backup and delete it immediately. Your backups exist only in your inbox.

Profitable since 2022

No investors. No acqui-hire path. Revenue-funded since day one. We'll be here as long as the internet is.

Read-only API access

For Cloudflare: Zone:Read. For Route53: route53:ListResourceRecordSets. We never write to your zones.

Frequently asked questions

What DNS record types do you back up?
All of them. A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, NS, SOA, CAA — every record type your provider returns via their API.
How often are my zones checked for changes?
Depends on your plan. Free checks daily, Pro checks every hour, and Business checks every 10 minutes. When a change is detected, a full zone snapshot is captured and the diff is stored automatically.
How do I restore from a backup?
Download any snapshot as a standard BIND zone file. Import it into your provider, or use it as a reference to rebuild records manually. No proprietary format, no lock-in.
How long are backups retained?
Free keeps 30 days of history. Pro retains 1 year. Business retains everything — unlimited history for every zone, every change, forever.
Is my data safe?
AES-256 encrypted at rest. Read-only API access — we never write to your zones. Zero-storage mode available on Pro and Business: we email you the backup and delete it from our systems immediately.
What if BackupMyDNS shuts down?
We're bootstrapped and profitable since 2022. No investors, no runway clock. Your backups are standard BIND zone files — not a proprietary format. They work with or without us.
Can my team access backups?
Pro includes 3 team members. Business includes unlimited. Everyone on the team gets access to diffs, snapshots, and downloads for all connected zones.
I only have a few domains. Is it worth it?
Your first domain is free forever. No credit card, no trial expiry. And consider: what's rebuilding your MX, SPF, and DKIM records from memory at 2 AM actually worth?
Can I back up domains across multiple providers?
Yes. Connect as many providers as you need — DNSimple, Route53, Cloudflare, GoDaddy. All your domains in one dashboard.

Free for one domain. Paid plans cancel anytime.

Your zone files are always yours.
